EXERCISE CLASSES AND OTHER SERVICES

All group classes are small so it will be proficient and focus on the individual

PNF Contract-Relax Stretching Class

This class is designed to help with common muscle imbalances. Muscle imbalances can pull the body out of alignment. Specific stretches are held for longer periods of time, and repeated several times. Frequent stretching reduces the chance of injuries in everyday life or when playing a sport. It also will help prevent stiffness and discomfort in the joints.

I am teaching the method of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). PNF stretching involves a variety of techniques. One of the techniques I use is the contract-relax, antagonist-contract (CRAC) method. That means, one muscle is being stretched, while the opposing muscle actively contracts.

 $15 per 40-minute virtual class.

$20 per 40-minute in person class.

Classes are on Wednesdays at 3PM every 2 weeks.

Foam Roll Release Class

You will learn to perform myofascial release on yourself with a foam roller. This technique involves applying pressure perpendicular to the muscle fibers in order to release connective tissue tightness. The facia (connective tissue within and around the muscles) can be a limiting factor in the flexibility of your shoulders, hips, and legs, resulting in a decrease in athletic performance, which can eventually lead to pain or injury.

Benefits include:

1. Decreased soreness, pain, and increased range of motion.

2. Improved circulation and delivery of oxygen, nutrients, and blood to the muscle.

3. Breaking down old scar tissue from an injury.

4. Cost-effective therapy versus be able to afford two massages a week.

5. Increased athletic performance.

6. Big results in small amounts of time.

Boxing/Kickboxing Class

Welcome to our new Boxing/Kickboxing Class! This is a special boxing class that is open to everyone who wants to try it out.

While this class is tailored for persons with PD, everyone is welcome to join.

This class will employ a full-body workout exercise regimen where you perform non-combat boxing exercises. Whether you're a fitness newbie or a seasoned gym goer, a boxing/kickboxing exercise at least once a week will help you feel re-energized.

And as for persons with PD, high intensity exercise is helpful. It can help you manage your PD symptoms and help you regain control of your life. While there is no one-size-fits-all way to exercise, many people with Parkinson's disease are turning to boxing fitness programs.

P.S This class will be handled by Coach Chip Souza.

Rock Steady Boxing (RSB)

We are learning every day that there are ways in which people with Parkinson’s disease can enhance their daily quality of life and even build impressive power, strength, flexibility, and speed!

By exercising with coaches who know the ropes, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better. Boxing works by moving your body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine as you progress through the workout.

These classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can actually lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life.
